Outside Leyton station at 6.45pm

Shortlist on a Thursday...
...My Free Sport on a Friday.

Down the hill from the station.

On a Thursday morning.

Every day free newspapers litter the pavement and road outside Leyton tube station. The rubbish bins outside the station are always filled with copies of London Lite and thelondonpaper.

We are told that there are limited recycling facilities at Leyton station. However, the vast majority of the newspapers that end up in the rubbish bags on the platform get thrown away.

It is obvious that space is at a premium outside the station. That said we believe that recycling bins could be sited directly in front of or on either side of the station on Leyton High Road.

We asked the afternoon freesheets whether they would install recycling bins themselves.

The London Paper admitted they are considering it but said they need "permission to site any bin from the owners of the land / station."

London Lite didn't offer a reply.

We have approached Waltham Forest council to see what help they can offer.

Over 400 trees are needed every day to supply the freesheet presses of London alone. We need to recycle more and we need help doing it.

The publishers of the afternoon freesheets recently agreed to install 70 recycling bins in the West End in a deal stuck with Westminster council.

We think that if Westminster can be afforded such measures then so can Waltham Forest!
