In December 2006 the organisers of Music Free Buses handed a petition with over 4,500 signatures to Transport for London. A copy of the petition was also presented in the House of Commons.

A new petition has been launched to cover all train, tram and bus services nationwide.

THE MUSIC FREE BUSES...AND TRAINS CAMPAIGN

With the proliferation of mobile phones that have built in mp3 players and the capacity to play music aloud it seems that we can’t get on a bus or train these days without hearing someone blasting out a tune for everyone else to hear.

Although they may find loud music annoying and intimidating, many passengers do not speak up, either because they have experienced verbal abuse when they have confronted someone or from fear of possible reprisals if they do, an understandable stance, given the number of unprovoked violent incidents on public transport. So the vast majority of bus users end up sitting and suffering in silence.

This website has been set up in response to increasing incidents of anti-social behaviour onboard buses and trains, specifically to petition for the introduction of a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones and mp3 players to play music out loud, without the use of headphones, backed up by clear onboard notices advertising this.
We believe that public transport companies throughout the UK should play an active part in discouraging anti-social behaviour onboard its vehicles and we would like to see this subject tackled head on. Our press release contains more details on the aims the campaign.

We will also be passing on all your feedback received through the Tell Us page. Details of how to contact your local operator can be found under Tell Them. A simple phone call or email to register your approval of a ban will add enormously to the work done by this site. Further contact details will be added in the near future.
